	EL SECRETARIO GENERAL DE UGT, CÁNDIDO MÉNDEZ , UN NUEVO “AMIGO DEL RIOJA”
	EL CONSEJO REGULADOR DE LA DENOMINACIÓN DE ORIGEN LE GALARDONÓ EN UN ACTO
El secretario general de la Unión General de Trabajadores, Cándido Méndez, recibió de manos del presidente del Consejo Regulador, Víctor Pascual Artacho, el distintivo “Amigo del Rioja”. El Consejo Regulador creó la distinción "Amigo del Rioja" para mostrar su agradecimiento a personas e instituciones por su especial vinculación y aprecio por los vinos de Rioja. Ha sido recibida hasta la fecha por periodistas como Iñaki Gabilondo, Carlos Herrera e Isabel Gemio, diplomáticos como Eduardo Aguirre, así como por el cantante Julio Iglesias, Pepu Hernández, el atleta Martín Fiz o la presidenta de Banesto Ana Botín. Esta "distinción" está simbolizada por una estatuilla de bronce, creada por el artista riojano José Antonio Olarte, que representa una cepa apoyada sobre una peana fabricada con la propia tierra del viñedo de Rioja. Esta entrega se produjo con motivo de la visita institucional al Consejo Regulador que realizó Cándido Méndez con una delegación de 25 miembros de su organización sindical. 	THE GENERAL SECRETARY OF UGT, CÁNDIDO DÍEZ, A NEW “FRIEND OF RIOJA”
	HE WAS AWARDED BY THE CONTROL BOARD OF THE DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN
The general secretary of the UGT, Cándido Méndez, was awarded by the president of the Control Board, Víctor Pascual Artacho with the prize “Friend of Rioja”. The Control Board created the prize “Friend of Rioja” to thank people and institutions for their special vinculation and appraisal towards Riojan wines. Such prize has been received by journalists like Iñaki Gabilondo, Carlos Herrera and Isabel Gemio, diplomats like Eduardo Aguirre, the singer Julio Iglesias, Pepu Gernández, the athlete Martín Fiz or the president of Banesto Ana Botín. Such distinction is symbolised by a bronze statue, created by the Riojan artist José Antonio Olarte, which represents a vine leaning on a base made of the soil of the Riojan vineyards. This ceremony was held due to the institutional visit to the Control Board by Cándido Méndez together with a 25-member delegation of his trade union.
