	LA UNIVERSIDAD POPULAR DE LOGROÑO RECIBIÓ LA “ESTRELLA DE EUROPA”
	UN GALARDÓN POR SUS ACTUACIONES PARA DIFUNDIR LA UE
La Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Logroño acogió la celebración del “Día de Europa”, en un acto en el que la Universidad Popular de Logroño (UPL) recibió el galardón “Estrella de Europa”, por "las distintas actuaciones de formación e información para difundir la Unión Europea". Al acto acudieron miembros del Gobierno de La Rioja, el Ayuntamiento de Logroño y representantes de ciudades europeas hermanadas con la capital riojana. Amparo Castrillo, directora de la UPL indicó que el galardón "es un reconocimiento a nuestra labor, sobretodo en una faceta que es de las menos conocidas". Afirmó que "nunca hemos sacado a la luz en los medios de comunicación cuando se nos ha elegido como representantes de España en mesas europeas de la UNESCO". Por su parte, el alcalde de Logroño manifestó que la ciudad "atesora en sus orígenes y muestra en su escudo dos de las principales raíces del alma europea; una la raíz mediterránea, que llegó por el Ebro desde la vieja Roma y arraigó entre nosotros en Varea; la otra la raíces del norte y centroeuropea, que desde el siglo XI han cruzado y siguen cruzando, Camino de Compostela, el puente del que brotó Logroño". 	UNIVERSIDAD POPULAR RECEIVES THE “ESTRELLA DE EUROPA” (STAR OF EUROPE)
	AWARDED FOR ITS ACTIVITIES PROMOTING THE EU
The square of the Town Hall in Logroño held the celebration of the Day of Europe, in an event in which the Universidad Popular de Logroño, UPL receive the “Star of Europe”, because of its activities to inform about and promote the European Union”. Members of the Riojan Government, the Town Council and representatives from different European twin-cities were also present in the event. Amparo Castrillo, director of the UPL stated that the award means “recognition of our work, especially of one of the least known facet”. She also declared that “we have never brought to light in the media when we have been chosen as Spanish representatives in UNESCO”. The major of Logroño stated that the city “shown in its coat of arms two of the roots of the European Spirit; the Mediterranean root, which came through the river Ebro from ancient Rome and took root in Varea; and the central and northern European roots which since the 11th century have crossed the Riojan lands towards Santiago de Compostela, the bridge from which Logroño was born”.
